I am interested in street and nature photography with a focus on abstract shapes, composition, and texture. I enjoy finding scenes that capture a little bit of each aspect, and then taking the time and care to line up and take the right shot. It is that extra care and thought which I believe separates a common snapshot from a photograph. My desire to do this springs from an emotional connection that I feel to my scenes. Each little budding blade of grass pushing its way up through some concrete has a story. It is this emotional layer which I am deeply connected to and believe it is my duty to communicate. Looking for such compositions in my day-to-day life provides a form of meditation, and we must live openly enough to embrace such situations as we encounter them.
Rot Series
I find beauty in the “urban rot.” These are man-made scenes, often found in the often-overlooked, back-areas of urban environments. They focus on degradation of materials, and the interplay between physical processes and the built environment.
Space Series
Big shapes combine in ways that bring pleasure to the visual mind. In this series, I focus on dominant shapes and lines which play off negative space to create interesting patterns.
Macro Series
In the depths of the COVID pandemic I purchased some cheap macro tubes and had a great time in my backyard. This led to a newfound interest in the beauty of tiny biological processes.
Street Series
In these more traditional street photographs, I attempt to capture moments of life which are surrounded by an interesting street scene. There is a real element of historical context to street photography, as each piece is tied to a particular time and place, and a particular urban environment.
